Wild Dolphin Asks Diver to Rescue Him from Fishing Line

Dolphins are one of the world’s most intelligent creatures, but they lack hands with opposable thumbs. Luckily, this wild dolphin knew where to find someone to help.

dolphin line rescue

Dive instructor Keller Laros was with a manta ray night dive tour off the Big Island of Hawai’i when a bottlenose dolphin appeared out of the dark trailing a fishing line hooked into his fin. After circling the divers, the dolphin swam over to Keller and waited patiently for him to remove the line. There is no doubt the dolphin understood and appreciated Keller’s help!

Cat’s Head Stuck in Storm Drain – Rescued!

This one will bring tears to your eyes, but luckily has a happy ending.

A five-month old kitten managed to get in a storm drain, already a bad place to be, and in her attempts to free herself, became stuck with her head through a storm drain. As if that wasn’t bad enough, a snowplow went over her TWICE, just narrowly missing her head.

After likely a full night — dusk to dawn — spent trapped and struggling, the kitten’s plight was noticed by mail carrier Andy Brulotte. He called for help. A police officer, a public works employee, and a woman who happened to be walking by worked together to free the cat, using a sledgehammer and crow bar to remove the grate and dish detergent to lube the cat to pull it out.

After her harrowing ordeal, the kitten got a vet visit and a new home. Brulotte had fallen in love and took her home, where she was immediately one of the family. Her name is now Kismet, although he did consider calling her Houdini.

Cat Rescued from Underneath Ferry Boat

The crew of the HSC Gotlandia II in Sweden heard the cries of a cat trapped under their ferry. Presumably the cat fell into the water, possibly after walking on thin ice, and climbed into the ferry’s water jets in its attempt to get to safety. Luckily for this kitty, crew member Johan Skärkarl spotted it and sprang into action, donning his wetsuit for a cold water rescue.

Fellow crew member Stellan Stenberg videoed the rescue. Once ashore the cat stayed near the rescuers. Stenberg posted the video on YouTube in hopes of finding the cat’s guardians.
